“The inspiration for this event was a friend of mine who did something very similar a few years ago. It only took three years to summon up the courage (aka get off my lazy ass) and get in the ring. Getting punched in the head for the first time was a shock, however, after a few headaches, concussions and comas (well, almost) I have reached a stage where I’ve really enjoyed the training, even though it has often meant getting up two hours earlier than usual and occasionally at 7am on a Saturday. I’ve enjoyed and played all sorts of sports, however, none come close to the difficulty of boxing. I even have a grudging respect for Audley Harrison now (Ok, I’ve gone too far). Top tip – do not spar on a hangover. It’s not pretty.”
